HM Forces and Bonallack & Bishop – our history
Our solicitors have the highest respect for the personnel of the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. We are proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
And we have a long history of association with the military. Not just because with offices in Amesbury, Salisbury and Andover, we are right on the edge of Salisbury Plain. Because over the years, many of our solicitors and staff have had strong military connections. The firm’s founder, Tim Bonallack, was a soldier himself for many years before qualifying as a solicitor. And the head of our family law team is not only a current serving District Judge but is also the son of a Colonel.
We have over 40 years’ experience of working for military clients – during which time we have helped many thousands of HM Forces personnel. We can help you to0.
We have regularly been invited behind the wire to talk to service personnel – and flown out to represent clients and deliver talks to Germany and elsewhere in military planes. We have advised members of HM Forces worldwide like divorce worldwide, whether on active service or training duties. We were offering Forces personnel video calls back as far as 2012.
And we are proud to act for retired veterans as well as serving military personnel.
Why use a Forces Law firm?
Forces Law firms undergo frequent specialist instruction in the niche areas of military law, family law for the military and other legal areas where an understanding of the armed forces is essential.
For certain areas of law, it is important to use an expert Forces Law solicitor with a sound understanding of the relevant issues. For example, in a military divorce, most family law solicitors do not understand how military pensions work and are not able to deal effectively with the financial side of a divorce. Similarly, having a strong understanding of the way that both military deployment and housing works means that our armed forces lawyers know how to handle arrangements for children.

Military Wills
The MOD strongly advises all military personnel to put a Will in place. A standard MOD form 106 military Will is very basic and, in most circumstances, you should consider asking an expert military Wills solicitor to prepare a more thorough document. This is particularly important if you are cohabiting or you have children.
Our armed forces Wills lawyers can ensure that your Will makes adequate provision for a partner, spouse or children, appoints guardians and trustees where necessary, and protects your assets efficiently.
-
Property purchase including Forces Help to Buy purchases
The government’s Forces Help to Buy Scheme enables service personnel to apply for a loan of up to half of their salary (maximum £25,000) interest-free to allow them to buy their first property or a subsequent property for those with particular medical or family needs.
We regularly carry out conveyancing for armed forces members, including those who want to apply for a Forces Help to Buy Scheme loan.

We know that bringing a legal claim against the military can seem challenging but claiming the compensation you are entitled to will give you the support you need for the future.
If your claim is successful, we will claim compensation from the MOD for the following:
· The pain and suffering caused by the accident or medical negligence
