Sport is a great way of keeping fit enjoyed by millions of people. Most of the time, sport is entirely positive and beneficial to us, but occasionally it does result in injury. Some of these injuries are unavoidable but sometimes they are caused by third party negligence.

If you have experienced a sports injury that was someone else’s fault then you may well be able to make a personal injury claim for some compensation. Get in touch with our specialist personal injury solicitors to find out whether you have a case and, if you do, the next steps you need to take.

Our personal injury team handle accident compensation claims for clients throughout Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset, Berkshire and Gloucestershire.

My Sports Injury – How do I know if I have a claim?

Every case of sports injury is different so it is important that your solicitor can have as much relevant information as possible to see whether a third party was possible for your personal injury. However, examples of sports injuries that can lead to a personal injury claim include:

• Defective equipment at gymnasiums or other sporting venues that causes an accident.

• Negligent behaviour on the part of a competitor in a sporting match that leads to your injury.

• Defective design or set up of sporting tracks or equipment.

My Sports Injuries Compensation –  Funding My Claim

Most of the accident compensation claims we run are funded under “no win no fee” agreements – which means you don’t have to worry about paying legal costs.

Sports Injury Claims – Time limits

In order to make a sports injury claim, you need to start your claim within 3 years of sustaining the injury. However, if you only became aware of your injury at a later date but can still prove it was a result of a sporting accident, the 3 years starts from when the injury is diagnosed.

Not only do time limitation periods apply to injury compensation claims, but it is also often easier investigating your case when you get prompt legal advice, when things remain is fresh in your mind.

Sports Injuries Compensation

When putting together your claim, your personal injury solicitor will help you gather as much evidence as possible to prove your case. This will include statements regarding the accident and medical reports verifying your sports injury. Your solicitor can also identify who you need to claim against. Depending on your particular case, this could be a gymnasium, sports club, a fellow sportsperson or someone else.

If you are successful in your claim, you will be awarded compensation for your injury. The level of compensation (or “damages” are as they are sometimes called) varies from case to case but will typically take into account any loss of earnings you’ve experienced and any expenses related to your injury.
